If you do not believe in God, what do you believe?

Do you believe in moral values?

Right and Wrong?

Do you believe in truth?

If so, where, on what, or in whom do you measure this things?

Do you only subscribe to what you can comprehensively understand?

In what you believe, where are the historical documents?

What is your empirical solution for life?

Hi there. I'd like to start by commenting on how very articulate and thoughtful you seem to be. It's refreshing to see young adults writing about important issues and philosophizing with enthusiasm and passion.

To answer your questions:
1. I believe in the power of humanitarianism
2. I believe what is right is what a person does and says that leaves others feeling peaceful and joyous on the inside, and that what is wrong hurts the physical and inner selves.
3. I beleive in truth. One doesn't have to beleive in a god/gods to live honestly and ethically.
4. I measure my beliefs on answers 1, 2 and 3 above.
5. No, I do not always subscribe solely to what I comprehensively understand. I don't always understand love, patience, tolerance...yet I strive to master these qualities.
6. Historical documents on what I believe are everywhere. Anything human-related is my "bible". Mankind's history is so very important to learn from, as one can usually spot mistakes and unethical choices in hindsight. We cannot right the wrongs that have been done, so looking forward and making plans for bettering ourselves is even more important.
7. See all of the above.

Dar,

Thank you for taking the time to comment!!

I'm glad you have brought up Humanitarianism... I wrestled with this notion greatly,(though in much more unsophisticated terms), and only now am I able to put words to the struggle.

I have posted my response to your statements under the newest posting.

I really appreciate your comments!

John,

Thank you for your responses. One more question: do you believe the Golden Rule always applies?

If not, when does it apply?

Thanks!

also, what I meant by empirical solution was simply how your worldview answers the three questions of life: how we are here? why are we here? where are we going?
